Report on the Offsite Mobile Storytelling Platform

ARIS Games

A Review and Feasability Analysis Produced for the C’esna?em Partners:
the University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology, the Musqueam Band and the Museum of Vancouver

Mission

The partners have commissioned CTLT to conduct an opportunity audit on mobile platform, ARIS Games which has been previously identified from a pool of similar applications as meeting all of the criteria deemed essential to this project.

Project

The partners are interested in involving Musqueam youth in the legacy of the exhibit through the creation of student-generated digital storytelling that connect to locations of personal and family significance in the Vancouver area using mobile media.

Students will be encouraged interview community members for quotidian stories from the past and the living culture of today connected to place. This will be accomplished through Band and school activities.

Background

C’esna?em: The City Before the City is a series of exhibitions about the Musqueam First Nation’s ancient landscape and living culture hosted at the UBC Museum of Anthropology, the Musqueam Cultural Centre and the the Museum of Vancouver, which opened in January 2015.

The exhibits connect visitors with the 5000 year old village and burial site on which Vancouver was built which continues to hold significance today. In September 2015 the project won the Governor General’s History Award for Museums.
